When we talk about processed foods, let’s start with mainstream commercial baby food (organic & non-organic) and move on up…
It has been undeniable true for decades that people who eat overly processed foods habitually suffer from higher rates of obesity, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, type 2 diabetes and the list goes on and on, statistic shows more than a third of all cancers can be easily linked back to diet. Diet related chronic diseases are amongst the top killers in America today and that is a fact sad but true.
We all know a few people who have seen dramatic change to their overall health by a simple change of diet from processed to fresh wholesome toxin free foods but it is nice to have a good scientific evidence to support what some of us have been talking about.
What is frustrating to me as a mother and a nutrition expert is the fact that not enough emphasis is put towards educating parents about processed foods. Oh goodness! The misconception of processed foods is causing the most harm in our communities today.
Can’t tell you how many times a parent has told me, ‘we feed our family all organic foods how can my baby be sick all the time’ junk food is junk food regardless if you are paying premium for it. Mainstream commercial baby food is one of the most processed foods on planet Earth, food is cooked with an 18months- 3 years shelf live, common sense tells us these type foods are not as nutritious as freshly made food and yes now we have science to support it..

As a mother and nutrition expert this was the frustration that lead me to start teaching workshops in the late 90s (still do) and subsequently Yummy Spoonfuls our fresh from scratch organic baby food company was launched. if you feed your baby food from pouches that you didn’t make at home you want to read this. If you have been to any of my workshops you have heard me talk about this , if you can please make your own baby food or buy fresh, these type of food might come in handy once in a while when you are totally strap for time but by no means should it be the food you feed your baby day in and day out.
