Food is healthcare & medicine is sick-care

it is the simple reason why chronic and deadly diseases continue to grow at an alarming rate despite the fact that we live in the most affluent country in the world with top notch physicians.

medicine-is-not-health-care

Medicine is not health care and will never be.

We need to try our hardest to train our kids to love foods that sustain health, it could be a battle with some kids but it is worth the effort. So many illnesses and chronic diseases are preventable.
Let’s continue to support each other, life is worth living vibrantly not always in a sick bed.

Feeding our kids fresh organic foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains beans etc along with grass-fed beef, wild-caught fish that are minimally processed prevent cancer and even block cancer growth. It also strengthens their immune system, protects them from diabetes, heart disease, obesity and maintains vibrant skin and strong bones to list a few. Healthy wholesome foods shouldn’t be an option at our homes, it should always be the first choice. We have to start believing in the old adage that we are what we eat and our kids what we feed them.

I know  jar/can  foods are so easy and convenient but our kids are paying a huge price with their health for this type of convenience , it just cannot sustain health.

Fresh organic food is best food for babies!

side by side-new-cup

Bonnie Bedford said it perfectly “what is best for the child is not always what is most convenient for the parent” . .

This is the best way I can think of when talking about how we feed our kids..

Today we are in such a rush about every thing, because of our need for super convenience we simply accept the fact that jarred/pouch shelf-stable pasteurized food with a 2-3 years shelf life is food suitable for babies. . .

See the huge difference between our freshly made peas and organic jarred/pouch peas. . As parents we need to fiercely demand better food options for our kids, fresh food should be the only option for all kids not just a few of us. Until we get to that point we should cook more and buy fresh food.
No child should eat food that was cooked way before they were born. We are what we eat and our kids what we feed them.

There is no parent who can happily eat a 2 year old cooked food but yet we expect our babies to eat these types of food that we as adults can’t tolerate  the taste nor the smell.

Our babies deserves better!

My top 3 back to school healthy tips.

fancy-water-oneInfused water to keep my kids properly hydrated during all their endless after-school activities. It is cheaper, healthier and a whole lot more tasty than sugary drinks.
There is really no limit to what you can do with infused water but here are my 2 favorite recipes.

Strawberry infused water: Strawberries, watermelon, slices of lemon, stevia leaf if you want it sweet, then add your water and let it infused overnight in the refrigerator .

Cucumber infused water: Cucumber, lemon, mint ( I love that you can use fresh produce from your tiny garden like we did) and water and infused over night.

Breakfast is an important meal, I love sending the kids off to school with a very nutritious meal, that sets the standard for the day, from their mood to their energy level, good wholesome unrefined whole wheat  zucchini pancakes is one of our all time favorites.
100% whole wheat banana zucchini pancakes:

Ingredients:

  • 2 bananas
  • 1/2 zucchini
  • 2 happy eggs
  • 1c milk (I always use almond)
  • Vanilla 1/2tsp Cinnamon 1/2tsp
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour + 2 tablespoons
  • Pinch of salt
  • Oil for skillet

Shred your zucchini, mash your banana, mix all together and fry. For the small pancakes you see on here I use a tablespoon to scoop the batter and for the large I use a 1/4 measuring cup.

I use every opportunity to nourish the kids so snacks are just as healthy as regular meal and smoothies are healthy super tasty snack. Here is our 9yr old son’s all time favorite snack and it is so easy to make if you have a blender..
