Mamas I know a lot of you are trying so hard to eat and feed the kiddos better but also believe in my core that we can only do better when we know better. If you are using canola oil with the believe that it is a healthier option you need to read this post from @organic_olivia.
“Did you know that canola cooking oil is registered as a pesticide? Yes – JUST the oil itself – the one that many people eat on a daily basis. It’s sold under a product called “Earth Tone Horticultural Oil” which has only one active ingredient (canola oil) at 96%. It is approved to kill a wide variety of insects… so imagine what it does to your delicate gut bacteria when you eat it. The plant “canola” does not exist. Canola oil was developed from the rape seed, a member of the mustard family. Rape seed is unsuitable for human consumption because it contains a long-chain fatty acid called erucic acid that is toxic and associated with fibrotic heart lesions.
The original rape seed oil was so inedible due to erucic acid that it took 10 years for marketers to modify the plant for lower acid production, newly revealing it as “(Can)adian (O)il, (L)ow (A)cid.” 90% of canola oil today is also genetically modified to contain an herbicide within its DNA (which is why it’s registered as a pesticide).
Canola shares soy’s hormone-disrupting tendencies, and is also noted to produce cancer-causing toxic fumes when heated at generally low temperatures. Canola causes your body to rapidly deplete Vitamin E (no food should do that) – and research also shows that canola oil causes detrimental changes to blood platelets. Throw out the canola and always use coconut oil or organic ghee for medium-high heat cooking. Olive oil should only be consumed raw or at a very low heat.”
At our home as you know coconut oil, olive oil, ghee and palm oil are oils of choice, listed in the order of use.
